How To NOT Get Scammed Online When Buying Video Games

When buying video games online there's a lot of places to choose from - each website offers different methods of activation e.g. retail, cd keys, console accounts and platform gifts. If you're feeling a bit worried or confused we're gonna give you some advice for buying video games online. There are 3 types of places you can buy games from: Official Stores, Key Sellers & Marketplaces - read the differences here.

Always make sure to:

✔️ Check the retailer is listed on our store list page (if not it may be dangerous). ✔️ Check the rating & reputation of individual sellers (when buying from marketplaces e.g. G2A or Kinguin). ✔️ Check the website terms and conditions for information regarding refunds & returns. ✔️ Check if the place you're buying from is an established business (and is actively trading). ✔️ Check if there support options available (e.g. email, ticket, live chat & phone). ✔️ Check review websites like Trustpilot to see what other customers are saying about them.

Never do the following:

❌ Buy console accounts (original account owner can change the username/password at any time). ❌ Buy gifts or altergifts - it's extremely risky and typically requires someone add you as a friend and gift you the game. ❌ Buy from websites that don't have the green padlock (SSL) shown in your browser address bar. ❌ Buy from a website if you were promised rewards after your purchase (e.g. free game coins or loot boxes). ❌ Assume a website is an "Official Store" just because it says so on their website (we will check this for you).
